If you're creating a TOC manually (or a price list or something similar), you may actually want to set a tab stop before the one where the page number is in order to have the leaders all stop at a uniform point, short of the number, regardless of how manyĭigits the numbers have.
The basics of using tabs and leaders are explained at The intervening tab stops and set a leader for the single remaining tab stop at 5.75", then it will extend from the text to the number. You'd have to set a leader for all the preceding tab stops as well.
Tab five times to get to the right-aligned tab stop at 5.75", and if you set a leader for only that tab stop, then the leader will be only between 5" and 5.75". As matters now stand, in the current example, you would need to press Do you actually need the tab stops at 1", 2", 3", 4", and 5"? If not, you should delete them.
